Animals Rights 'No Experience' Kijiji ad speaks volumes
Based on the Kijiji ad I just read, the forthright and honest animal rights activists of our region are running low on recruitment.
Oh No better start an online campaign!
The following post, currently running (till the Site’s admin pull it down) on the popular ‘For Sale’ Site Kijiji, entitled SHRINE CIRCUS PROTEST, reads as follows:
Join your fellow animal lovers in educating the public about the cruelty involved in animal circuses. Activists will be present for all Shrine Circus shows over the weekend, handing out literature and holding signs (all materials will be provided, but feel free to make your own sign). Our approach will be friendly and informative.
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
Outreach times are as follows:
Friday, August 7, at 2:30PM and 6PM
Saturday, August 8, at 11AM, 2PM and 6PM
Sunday, August 9, at 12PM and 3PM
Such a lame public plea for support with a strong emphasis on NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED, only goes to prove that defending rights of circus animals is more about shit disturbing than it is the well-being of animals.
Not surprising that these misguided animal rights do-gooders would prefer their new recruits be ignorant and ill-informed. I believe they would fit-in better that way and, of course, are easier to brain wash too.
Trust me, I’ve had my dealings with these people at previous Shrine Circuses and its quite apparent they have little experience and no common sense; straight out of a Kijiji ad no doubt!
The protest approach will be ‘friendly and informative’ they say, now there’s a good one. These people’s main objective is to make children cry (as they did to my daughters) in an attempt to block access to events which raise MILLIONS of dollars for an organization that runs charity hospitals for sick children.
What happens when the day arrives and one of their kids requires spinal surgery, and the Shriner’s Hospital is their only option?
Who’s children will be crying then?

Misguided protestors wreak havoc in Westboro
Has anyone noticed a commotion outside the NRML store in Westboro?
You can thank the Animal Defence League(ADL) for that commotion!
Last week I received a very disheartening letter from a shop owner on Richmond Road in Westboro, who owns a store very close to the NRML store.
In case you didn’t know what the ADL’s beef(pun intended) is with NRML, the store happens to sell the popular Canada Goose parkas which happen to have coyote fur trim along the hood.
The Animal Defence league is protesting NRML for carrying this product, and have even start a petition online. According to the ADL, “Animals killed for fur are trapped, skinned alive, and anally electrocuted. They encourage the public to sign a petition to stop this cruelty.
The fact of the matter is we have a real coyote population control issue in Canada which the ADL evidently is unaware of.
Perhaps the ADL might do some ‘Googling’ to understand the difficulty conservationists have in managing this predator population, especially the Urban coyotes of this country.
But noooo, the ADL would rather hassle innocent business owners as a way of ‘furthering their cause’ in protecting animals from the dreaded fur industry.
(Speaking of Google, perhaps the ADL might also consider researching the FUR INDUSTRY in this country while they are educating themselves on coyotes.)
The shop owners along Richmond Road have tried reasoning with these people too but to no avail.
Instead the Shop owners were verbally attacked!
They called the police repeatedly but were told that law enforcement couldn’t do anything because these protestors have a permit to demonstrate issued by the City of Ottawa, therefore they are not breaking any criminal laws.
What???
Oh yes, and police also explained that the ADL’s right to protest – as covered in the Charter of Rights & Freedoms – supersedes any by-law or criminal law.
The group has been protesting the NRML store every Saturday & Sunday for almost 1 year, and I’m told they’ve even added bullhorns to their arsenal.
The group has also been seen writing derogatory material in chalk in front of the NRML store, and in front of other stores down the street.
How can one group of ignorant, misguided individuals systematically run small business owners into the ground based on their own twisted ‘perceived animal cruelty’?
You know why?
Because not only do we LET IT HAPPEN, by doing nothing to stop it we are essentially furthering their cause against the trapping industry, and conservation as a whole!
I feel for these business owners who are simply trying to make a living and because one of their products happens to have sustainable, ethically harvested, fur on it it’s a problem?
The real problem here in my opinion is ignorance, of which the ADL evidently wrote the book on.

Kid & Ted's Excellent Cougar Adventure!
The above photo showing Michigan native Kid Rock posing for the camera with a large cougar he harvested recently, is creating a real Internet buzz!
Thank goodness Ted Nugent was around to back-up his pal Kid!
The following caption posted on Ted’s official website explains how Ted’s pal Kid recently embarked on the hunt and harvested a large cat, and Ted even predicted the aftermath!
HAIL my MotorCity boy KidRock for saving all those muledeer elk & livestock by whacking this magnificent mountain lion. I can hear the braindead squawkers already with their obscene denial that killing lions is wrong. Its [sic] legal its [sic] necessary its [sic] good its [sic] beneficial its [sic] a damn riot! “
Evidently Kid’s recent cougar hunt (and harvest) did not sit well with those opposed to to hunting in general. Even though it was completely legal.
Animals Rights sabotage farmers Twitter campaign!
Andrew Campbell – a dairy farmer from Middlesex, Ontario never imagined the firestorm he’d unleashed on Twitter by posting the day-to-day runnings of his farm near London.
Campbell’s posts evidently caught the attention of Vegans and Animals Groups from all around, as hoards of these misguided individuals came-out of the woodwork in an attempt to sabotage his Twitter campaign!
Angered with the young farmer’s decision to share positive results from his agricultural operation online, those opposed to the livestock industry swamped Campbell’s Twitter postings that used the hashtag “#Farm365.”
Along with Twitter rants bemoaning the use of animals for food, graphic images of animal’s being slaughtered started flooding Campbell’s 13,000 Twitter followers!
In angry and disrespectful tweets, Campbell was referred to as both a ‘murderer’ and ‘rapist’ of animals (loose reference, I assume, to artificial insemination practises used in livestock industry)
The bitter tweeting battle quickly spilled over into #Ontag – a hashtag used mostly by people in Ontario’s agriculture industry to share information.
“What we have seen is there are activists concerned about animal care and thousands of farmers who are concerned about animal care”, said Campbell “There is just maybe a little bit of a gap there,” he added.
The young farmer went on to explain that, “If anything, this shows the reality that there is a gap in the information on how animals are raised on farms”
If nothing else, Andrew Campbell’s Twitter campaign may serve to educate those individuals otherwise clueless on the inner-workings of the livestock industry.
One thing for certain, Campbell’s story has already succeeding in demonstrating the ignorance shared by many Vegan and Animal Rights Groups!

Charter of Rights and Freedoms, for Animals?
Ok, now I’ve heard of everything – a Charter of Rights and Freedoms for animals to call their own?
An animal rights group from Canada has proposed the ground-breaking “Charter of Rights and Freedoms for Animals” as not only a way to further the protection of animals but (in my opinion) further the agenda of this one particular Animal Rights group.
An organization calling themselves ‘Animal Justice’ launched the idea which would “guarantee the rights and freedoms that make life worth living, and give all animals a chance to have their interests represented in court.”
What??
The group claims there is a huge gap between how Canadians care about animal welfare and how the legal system views it, and are hoping a petition draws the attention of policymakers.
According to the group’s lawyer: “A charter would give clear guidelines on how animals are to be treated and how we expect to live with them… free from suffering, live meaningful lives which they can express natural behaviours and socialize.”
It actually took me a few seconds to check the calendar, as I was convinced it was April 1st and this was all a big joke.
Don’t get me wrong, I love animals and I’m a huge proponent of conservation and wildlife management, but come on now people, give your head a shake!

Shriner charged in incident with Animal Rights group
I would like to share my frustration regarding an incident with Shriner’s senior chairman Lionel Rowe, in a scuffle involving a member of Animal Rights Group, Ottawa Animal Defense League (OADL) member Len Goldberg.
As someone who’s personally had a brush with this same organization; several years ago when I brought my young daughters to the Shriners Circus at the St Laurent Mall, I know exactly the frustration Mr. Rowe must be feeling. (Well, everything but the being charged with assault part)
Evidently the OADL was finally successful in suckering someone into a fight; as I’m quite sure this was their intent all along with this upstanding member of the Shriners. The OADL tried the same tactic on me which, fortunately remained nothing more than a shouting match. (I made sure to remain calm and keep my cool)
The Ottawa SUN confirmed in an article yesterday that “The chairman of the Capital Shrine Club is to appear in court this month after a protester was allegedly choked outside a Shrine Circus performance at the RA Centre last year.”
The report went-on to say; “The OADL claims Len Goldberg was participating in a legal protest, sanctioned by a City of Ottawa permit, on public property near the RA Centre. It claims Goldberg was assaulted with a choke-hold that lasted about 30 seconds and only ended when the attacker’s hands were pried off”
During the incident I had with this OADL, my passage to the Shrine Circus was actually blocked by these so-called legal protestors handing out propaganda pamphlets. One member of the group told me (as I walked hand-in-hand with my daughters) that I should be ASHAMED that I was subjecting my kids to such animal cruelty!
Cruelty? I asked, as I went-on to explain to this individual that I was a supporter of the Shriners and all the good work they carry-out in their children’s hospitals.
We exchanged a few words but there was no reasoning with this bunch.
He would not listen to anything I had to say and went-on to berate me for my support of the Shriners. (One of my daughter’s was crying by this point) Feeling me heart-rate on the rise, I choose to push past the barking sound of his megaphone, but not before tossing a few pamphlets in the air!
Although I felt like tackling this individual to the ground myself, I knew it would get me nowhere and only serve to further their cause.
Evidently in the case of Shriner’s chairman Lionel Rowe, he was unable to keep his cool, allowing another misguided animal rights group another small victory.
Yes, in a twisted sort of way, lawsuits of this nature play right into their hands!
My thoughts go out to Mr. Rowe and the rest of the Shriners. May this one unfortunate incident NOT tarnish the image of an organization that donates millions each year to aid crippled children, at no cost to the families, I might add.
Whose needs are being served by the Ottawa Animal Defense League?
I have no idea…it certainly isn’t the animals.

Barenaked Ladies cancel SeaWorld Show following Animal Rights petition
I just knew the Barenaked Ladies were doomed after they parted ways with original leader singer (heart and soul of the band) Steven Page!
Following a recent petition by an Animal Rights Activist against the band’s upcoming performance at Orlando’s SeaWorld, Barenaked Ladies have chosen to cancel the show altogether; in yet another apparent ‘cave to pressure’ from a radical ‘tree-hugging’ organization.
A resident of St. Catharines started a petition asking Barenaked Ladies to reconsider their SeaWorld concert scheduled for Feb. The petition received nearly 12,000 signatures (still scratching my head over that) and included a suggestion the band watch Animal Right’s propaganda flick Blackfish – a film portraying claims of abuse to killer whales in large theme parks.
In a post on their Facebook, Barenaked Ladies stated; ” We’ve talked things over, and decided not to play at Seaworld at this time. We watch movies too, ya know!”
So, without coming out and saying they’ve heeded to pressure on basis of cruelty at SeaWorld, the Ladies claim their decision to cancel had more to do with their fans than Animal Rights. (eyes rolling…)
Dammit, I just knew that infamous line from If I had a Million Dollars where the Ladies sing they want a fur coat, but not a REAL fur coat that’s cruel – would come back to haunt us!!
Come on guys, your decision to cancel SeaWorld has EVERYTHING to do with Animal Rights and ‘perceived’ cruelty to animals portrayed in some propaganda film, why not come out and admit it?
On a more personal note, I am already booked to visit SeaWorld with my family in January (have e-tickets on me as we speak) even plan to write an article about it, and if you think this guy is canceling because of some PETA-style petition or video, you’ve got another thing coming!
The Barenaked Ladies went on to say that “The SeaWorld folks have been gracious, and extended us invitations to the park to learn more about what they do, and how they do it”
My suggestion to the Barenaked Ladies: take SeaWorld up on their offer next time before running off to the Big Smoke with your tail between legs, I bet even Rob Ford goes to SeaWorld!!
Oh and another suggestion: get Steven Page back!!

Ottawa – treehuggingest City in the world!!
I have come to the conclusion that our once fair City has become nothing but a bunch of animal rights tree huggers and dicky-birders.
First it was the Barrhaven wild turkeys earlier this spring, and the whole City was abuzz. OMG, these irate wild birds are going to peck our eyes out!
And chaos ensued!
Then it was the Westboro squirrels, and the whole City was in an uproar. Evidently residents of this trendy, small-mammal hating part of town were live trapping squirrels and relocating them across the river to Quebec. (Because, of course, squirrels are considered ‘fur bearers’ and you cannot legally shoot them)
And chaos ensued! (They even started a bloody Twitter feed over it…)
And NOW, City of Ottawa naturalists are up in arms about a group of Jockvale Bridge barn swallows! What, a lowly bug loving barn swallow has thrown the proverbial wrench in a multi-million dollar bridge project??
That’s right, and you guessed it chaos ensued once again!!
For gawd’s sake people, I have barn swallows nesting in my trailer up in Cobden but HERE in the tree-huggingest City in the world, the barn swallow is considered Threatened??
How did the barn swallow make it on the threatened list now, you ask? (I was scratching my head over this one too) I mean, they’re not killing the swallows they’re simply removing the nests. There are plenty of other overhangs and clay left in the region to construct new ones.
As I explained during a chat this am on CHEZ 106 FM’s Doc & Woody Show, nowhere in the world is the barn swallow considered threatened except here in the tree-huggingest Province of Ontario..and being exemplified right here in the treehuggingest City of Ottawa!
My guess is that some Ottawa tree hugging Naturalist has confused Barn Owl with Barn Swallow…and placed them on an threatened list by accident. The Barn owl does, of course, appear on the Canadian Species at Risk list but nowhere did I find Barn Swallow.
Perhaps if I were to go outside and hug a tree reallllly hard, it would all come to me; in a flurry of emotion and clarity and this nonsense would somehow finally make sense!
Until then, think I’ll just crawl inside one of those Westboro live traps and get relocated to the QC side…

Ethical treatment of animals my ass!!
(A Police detective in a hazmat suit prepares to bury a puppy killed by PETA)
The wheels seem to be falling off for our good friends over at the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
A recent Expose of Animal Shelter practices by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has produced some shocking results.
The report indicated that approximately 2,000 animals pass through PETA’s front door every year with the vast majority of them – 96 percent in 2011 – heading straight out the back after they have been killed.
(Photo of PETA ‘death kit’ confiscated by Police from the organization’s van in Ahoskie, North Carolina)
Last year, 733 dogs entered this PETA Animal Shelter. They killed 602 of them. Only 12 were adopted. Also in 2012, the oganization impounded 1,110 cats. 1,045 were put to death. Seven of them were adopted.
Among the other shocking discoveries was a dumpster full of garbage bags, where Police found the bodies of dead animals all killed by the Organization. PETA described these animals as “adorable” and “perfect.”
A veterinarian who naively gave PETA some of the animals, thinking they would find them homes, and examined the dead bodies of others, testified that they were “healthy” and “adoptable.”
So I ask you, is this an Organization you want to support? Where are all the Millions in donations going?
The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach yet still not surprising given some of the antics we’ve seen, over the years, from these clowns.
