Well folks, it finally happened!
The Animal Rights Groups now appear to battling amongst themselves!
I suppose it was really only a matter of time.
According to SUN Media, the same group who forced ‘Foie Gras’ to be removed from an NCC dinner at Winterlude – the Ottawa Animal Rights Defence League – now has their sights set on the Ottawa Humane Society’s fundraising dinner known as the Fur Ball.
(John Baird at a previous Fur Ball)
The Ottawa Animal Rights Defence League appears to have a beef (pun intentional) over what’s being served at the Ottawa Humane Society Dinner in March, and they are doing their utmost to have it removed!
Animal Defence League spokesperson Sue Lawrence said she was extremely sad that such a fundraiser dinner, being held at the National Gallery, would consist of meat. Lawrence says they should be serving a strictly vegan diet.
But alas, the Ottawa Humane Society is not caving in and plans to stick with the original menu which includes meat.
The Society has even spoken out to clarify that they are considered an ‘animal welfare’ organization and not an animal rights group, and do not have a position against raising animals for food.
The Ottawa Humane Society has even offered a vegan option at previous dinners, but says that fewer than 5% of guests have opted for it.
Well I say, KUDOS to the Ottawa Humane Society for sticking to their guns, and I take back what I said earlier.
There seems to be only one Animal Rights Group in this story, and they certainly appear to have lost this round.
Now, let’s get some Foie Gras back on the Winterlude menu!!

Wildlife group takes aim at coyote contest
By SCOTT TAYLOR, Ottawa Sun
Last Updated: January 12, 2011 9:24am
OTTAWA – – A contest to kill coyotes might seem like fun to some, but a wily lawyer and three organizations are declaring open season on anyone who goes through with it.
The Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre (OCWC), Canadian chapter of Born Free USA, and Animal Alliance of Canada recite chapter and verse a section of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, which states: ” … it is an offence to hunt for gain or to induce another person to hunt for gain.”
Offering prizes in upcoming contests Ñ including a first prize of a Mossberg 535 shotgun Ñ is illegal, they say, and they have a lawyer loaded for bear on the payroll.
“There is a clear admission on the part of the mInistry of natural resources that these coyote killing contests are illegal,” said OCWC president Donna Debreuil.
Animal Alliance director Liz White said the cold shoulder forced the organization to bring a hired gun of its own on board.
Lawyer Peter Copeland wrote to Natural Resources Minister Linda Jeffrey recommending the contests, and not the coyotes, be killed.
This is the second year the Osgoode Township Fish, Game and Conservation Club has held the contest. A shotgun was awarded after a draw last year as well. Contestants’ names were entered in a draw every time they came through the door of The Old Co-Op in North Gower with a coyote carcass. The ministry has deemed the contest legal.
Since we are already on the topic of Animal Rights, what do you think of the Trudeau Family’s Christmas card?
Apparently PETA didn’t think much of it at all.
Personally, I thought it was quite well done and the fact that they picked ‘coyote fur’ is also interesting, considering we have a burgeoning coyote population across this country.
I would think PETA would be happy they chose coyote instead of wolf, but I guess not.
The company who made the coats and blanket – Canada Goose – has stated that they respect both animals and the environment and that their fur was harvested under the latest humane methods.
What do you think about the card and PETA’s reaction to it, drop me a line!

A self-proclaimed Animal Rights Activist faces up to 3 years in prison for abusing her three sons, and even forcing them to stay in dog cages!
The 49-year old Connecticut woman, who ran an animal rescue shelter out of her home, was discovered after her 14-year-old son was admitted to a psychiatric hospital – suffering an emotional breakdown.
He and his two younger brothers were said to have suffered sexual and physical abuse at the hands of their Animal Right’s activist mother.
Is it just me, or is this sort of shocking behaviour not even that surprising anymore; given that it is an “Animal Rights” person involved?
It reminds me of the time I was confronted by Animal Rights people at the Ottawa Shiners Circus two summers ago. I was there with my two daughters and as soon as we arrived, the Animal Rights idiots were in our face with their annoying megaphones!
They went on and on about how ashamed I should be for subjecting my children to such animal abuse and cruelty. Then they went into vivid detail about the degree of suffering an elephant goes through in a given day.
They even made my youngster daughter cry for God’s sake!
Finally, I grabbed a bunch of pamphlets and threw them in their face. I said “You must be very proud of yourself, to make a little girl cry like that!” You must have been proud too when PETA was stripped of its “non-profit’ organization status a few years ago?”
(I actually said more which I will not repeat)
“Do you realize how many children and their family’s the Shriner’s hospital helps each year, you ignorant bastard?” But they didn’t care one bit, in their minds the Shriners were nothing but a despicable bunch of animal abusers.
They wouldn’t let up either, and finally we were able to get away and move to the entrance. A Shriner Rep. came up to me later saying how sorry he was we had to deal with that, he thanked me for the support and even offered us free tickets for the show. It was very kind of him.
The whole experience proved to me how little disregard ‘these people’ have for human decency. When I heard about the woman in Connecticut, it did not surprise me in the slightest.
It is a sad state of affairs when the abuse of children becomes almost ‘expected’ from Animal Rights groups. It just goes to show how sick they really are!

If Earle McEwen of North Gower didn’t feel badly enough when a blaze destroyed his barn along with 5,600 egg-laying hens last week, the Animal Defense League was right there to throw salt in the wound!
The Animal Right’s Group surreptitiously gained access to McEwen’s property after the fire, to capture gruesome video footage of the chicken’s charred remains.
Now how sick is that?
According to a SUN Media report:
On Friday a local group of animal rights activists stood at the edge of his property armed with signs reading “Birds Suffer and Die for Eggs you Buy” and the video footage.
Michele Thorn would not reveal who captured the video, but her group, the Ottawa Animal Defense League was not afraid to distribute the gruesome footage to media.
“It’s frustrating, it’s not any of their business,” McEwen said of the protesters.
Thorn stood in the rain carrying an R.I.P. sign and a “bloody” cross, arguing there’s no need to eat eggs or any other food that comes from animals.”
Earle McEwen lives with his wife and his elderly parents live on the same property.
What has this world come to when we put the rights of animals so far ahead of our human rights, that we feel it necessary to kick someone when they are already down.
This group makes me sick and I only wish someone would have caught them trespassing onto Mr McEwen’s property.
Can we now expect the Animal Defense League to bother the Joly family of Cumberland, who just lost 70 dairy cattle in a recent barn fire?

“Animal Defence League” you ever heard of them??
No, me neither, but evidently their mandate includes the protection of rats – a mangy rodent notorious for its ability to carry disease and responsible for spreading the Black Plague.
According to CFRA Radio:
A woman walking along Laurier Avenue outside the park says, “I think they should leave the rats.” She argues that — as long as they don’t hurt anybody, destroying the park or going into garbage bins, why should they be hurt?
The Animal Defence League has a 3pm protest planned to oppose the placement of rat poison in Confederation Park.
Their news release says “rats are playful, love to be tickled and make chirping noises that sound like laughter”.
“Rats are playful” – give me a break, I mean, Russell Williams was probably playful too as a boy, and looked how he turned out – the filthiest scumbag rat of them all!!
Ok, is it just me or has everyone in the City gone mad??
I invite any member of the Animal Defence League out there to please explain their stance for me, because obviously I’m not picking up what they’re putting down!
Come on people, these are rats we’re talking about!!

My girls have been listening to Lady Gaga music for awhile now and I was never quite sure whether I approved of it or not. I mean come on, its Lady Gaga right!
That is until now….
In the latest issue of Japan Vogue (I am an avid reader btw) the Gagster sports a shiek-looking string bikini made entirely out of red meat, and if I had to wager a guess I’d say it was probably beef.
I personally think the bikini is neat looking, a piece of art you might say. What would they call that, Haute Couture?
Anyhow, our good friends over at PETA had an altogether different take on Gaga’s protein attire:
“No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal.” said PETA president Ingrid Newkirk
“Meat represents bloody violence and suffering, so if that’s the look they were going for, they achieved it.”
I have no idea what look Lady Gaga was going for in this photo shoot, but she succeeded in upsetting PETA which is just fine in my books.
