Royals told by Animal Rights group to avoid Stampede

Prince William and Kate Middleton are being urged to avoid the Calgary Stampede, during their visit of that city in July.

The UK Animal Rights group called Fight against Animal Cruelty says if the Royals visit the famous Calgary Stampede; it would be like saying that rodeos, in general, are ok.

The Animal Rights group also sent Prince William and Princess Kate a short propaganda video(shot to the dramatic music of Olivier Stone’s movie Platoon) depicting the horrors of rodeo in North America, although none of the footage was reportedly taken at the Calgary Stampede.

According to the Calgary Herald:

“Every year, the Calgary Humane Society has animal protection officers on the grounds throughout the Stampede monitoring and enforcing provincial and federal animal protection legislation.

Executive director Patricia Cameron said the Stampede has been responsive to recommendations for improvements to animal safety. She said the Stampede has made at least 33 amendments to its practices based on consultation with the humane society in recent years.”

It remains to be seen whether Wil & Kate keep the Calgary Stampede as part of their 3-day itinerary. I would sure that, with the Royal Family’s long history of hunting and show horses, they do not cave to pressure.

According to Stampede Spokesperson Doug Fraser, the Royals are more than welcome in his fair city:

“If the royal couple has any intention of seeing the rodeo, we’ll give them the best show possible,” said Fraser.

Prince William and Princess Kate will be in Calgary from July 6 – 8, as part of their cross- Canada visit.

  1. I wonder if these hippies go after the progressive European traditions like bull fighting (which leads to spoiled meat and a tortured bull), bull running (injured and spoiled …), etc etc etc … or is it just Canadians that are backwards enough to warrant their interest ?

    1. Rob, this group seems to lump the North American Rodeo in with bull fighting as ‘equally as cruel’

  2. Rob these so called animal rights group will use any excuse to get publicity and raise money. They do not have any interest in animal rights. All they are interested in is how can we suck in the bleeding hearts to get more money out of them. Animals are just a means to an end.

  3. That’s right Rick, there are a lot of foolish people involved that really believe they are doing good for the animals all the while the leaders of these groups are just in it for the money. Really some of these people involved in these groups are obviously mentally deficient.

    1. Iggy, these people are not only mentally deficient they are easily influenced, and the first ones to get sucked into Cults like the Church of the Solar temple and PETA, for example.

  4. Isn’t it a shame when people including celebrities can’t make up there own minds on whether to see an event or not. I know if i was told not to see something or else, you can bet i will do it just to let them know i cannot be influenced or intimidated.

    1. Paul, I want you to join an Animal Rights group……now!

      Just testing…hehe

    2. Paul, my feeling is the Royals will not cave on this..based on a long-standing tradition. And I would be highly disappointed if they did.

You can bet I will be following the outcome of this..it may not seem like a huge deal, but to those associated with the Calgary Stampede(Or any other NA Rodeo) this is pretty big!

      1. OK, it was bad enough that a relatively meaningless Animal Right’s Group from the UK were instructing the Royals not to visit the Calgary Stampede, but now Canada’s own Vancouver Humane Society has jumped on the bandwagon!!

Boy, it seems our lovely city of Vancouver is doing their utmost these days to tarnish that squeaky clean image of theirs..

Can someone please tell me why Canada’s own Humane Society would want to stick their nose into Wil & Kate’s visit?

Are they really concerned with animal welfare, or is it all for cheap publicity??

  5. Isn’t it strange all this fuss about the visit. In 1926 a young man by the name of Pete Vandermeer fom Caroline was the World Saddle Bronc Rider. The Prince of Wales who was in the audience asked to meet him. When the Prince returned to England, he took Pete with him. At Windsor Castle he gave a command performance for the King and Queen. He was presented with a gold watch and belt buckle, and received alot of acclaim in the British Press where they referred to him as “The Prince’s Cowboy”.Enough said.
