Weird Facts about Fishing finally here

Weirdfactscover

My first book entitled Weird Facts about Fishing is now finally available at the local bookstores!

Try your local Chapters-Indigo, Coles and all Canadian tire stores for your copy of this soon-to-be best seller.

As my Dad would say, the book is great; good for coughs, colds and sore holes!

    Weird Hunters I Once Knew

    1. I’m just wondering, has anyone been able to find a copy of my book around town?

  2. Read it cover to cover, some very interesting stories…….Bravo Jeff. (let me know when you want to write another one…..(you know the topic)

  3. Thanks Trapper, I’m glad you liked it!

  5. Just went to C.T. at the corner of Merivale and Hunt Club and they didn’t know anything about the book in the Sports section or at the courtesy desk.

    1. That’s weird Iggy..every Canadian Tire store is suppose to carry books in a LonePine Publishing stand…its usually located near the entrance and holds an entire nature series, as well as the Weird Facts series and apparently mine now too..

I know the CT stores on the east end have the LonePine racks Ive seen them…and the Publisher informed me that mine should be circulated by now…unless they’re all sold out. I know the Coles I went to only had two copies left..you might wanna try Chapters too.

  6. I saw the “weird rack’
weird laws, weird animals, weird plands
    but no fishing

    I’ll try again next week

    1. Iggy, I’m following up with the Publisher on this…the book is suppose to be fully stocked
at these locations by now…will keep informed.

  7. I bought a copy from Chapters in the est end on Ogilvie. The computer said it had two copies, but I had to ask for help in finding the one copy. It’s in the Sports/Fishing section, but was misplaced. I started reading it last night. Very interesting and cool little tidbits, and I especially like the Fishing Locations section 🙂

    1. Hey George, I’m really glad you eventually found one, but must admit it is discouraging to hear how inaccessible it seems to be right now..I dropped my Publisher a note yesterday and hopefully they can get to the bottom of this and have the book more available than it seems to be in Ottawa.

Thanks for the kind words btw, some of the stories you’ll see are very personal to me..while others are examples of what can happen to other anglers across North America..

I was also pleased to have Patrick Walsh – Editor of Outdoor Canada and Gord Follett – Editor or Outdoor Sportsman magazine both contribute to the “NA Top Fishing Destinations” chapter…I really look up to these guys who had some great info. to add…

Incidentally, my book is being featured in the summer issue of Outdoor Canada magazine – another tip of the hat to Mr Walsh and Bob Sexton of OC!!

  8. Jeff,

I was just at at CT on Innes Rd and the rack (Pine something) book. I spoke to the Inventory manager and he said some lady comes in about once every 3 weeks to fill it up. the store has no control on this.

Can we get this book anywhere else in town?

  9. So you found the Lone Pine rack at CT..and my book wasn’t there?

As far as other places go, I’m told that Chapters and some Coles are suppose to have it..

I’ll see if I can find out more..sorry about that, man!

  10. Yup I found the Lone Pine rack at CT..and your book wasn’t there… there was however a book on “weird facts about gardening” or something like that… LOL!

I’ll check out Chapters or coles over the weekend to see if I can find it there!

    1. My Publisher is a ‘she’ actually…and really, the issue now is more with the distributor..I have asked her to look into it…so will hopefully have some news soon.

LonePine is apparently good when it comes to getting books in mainstream stores..and
Excellent when it comes to out-of-the-way places…take, for example, the campground where our trailer is in Cobden..even the little gift shop there has a Line Pine rack..with the entire Weird Facts series..

Hey, if Cobden ON carries my book and Ottawa doesn’t, then you KNOW something is wrong..nothing against Cobden of course…

  11. jeff, was at chapter’s on rideau street friday noon and they had none, don;t know if sold out or what. i asked for help and they couldnt find a copy but it was in computer.

    1. Thanks Mcdan, apparently they are working on this situation as we speak..I’m sorry for the run-around!

In the meantime, here is a review of the book written by Ottawa SUN writer Don Ermen..who incidentally has a Blog with the Ottawa SUN called The Book Worm:

      Jeff Morrison – Sasquatch Hunter
      By Don Ermen SUN Media

No, Sun Outdoors Blogger, also known as OG (Outdoors Guy), hasn’t written a book about Sasquatch.

What he has written in an entertaining book about fishing called Weird Facts About Fishing.

I remember my first fishing trip as a kid. I was about 12 years old and we were camping near St. Martin’s, which is near Fundy Park in New Brunswick. (By the way, Fundy Park is a great place for a vacation). We were tramping through little streams catching brook trout by the basket.

My family also had a cottage on the Richibucto River in New Brunswick. From early spring to late fall, we fished for gaspereau, perch and bass. It was incredible to watch the gaspereau in the spring. They stayed about 10 feet off the shore and the water bubbled as they made their way up the river. In the winter, we’d go ice fishing. And we did our share of eeling as well. I haven’t picked up a fishing pole in years. I’ve become a urban dweller, living downtown.

But there are lots of places to fish not far from downtown Ottawa and there are lots of people who like to do it. Despite the teasing I dole out to Jeff on this blog about his belief in Sasquatch, the man knows the outdoors and he knows fishing. For years he wrote an outdoors column for the paper and it now continues online. So when Jeff writes about quirky superstitions and family outings, he can speak from personal experience.

For example, did you know that in 2004 an antique fishing lure sold for $101,200? Or that the sturgeon can range in size from 2 to 12 feet? Or that in Tennessee, it is illegal to catch fish with a lasso?

Published by Overtime Books, Weird Facts about Fishing is a fine addition to the fishermen’s library. Hey, next time you’re fishing, set up your pole, sit back in the lawn chair and give it a read.

  12. Jeff,

I was just at at CT on Innes Rd today Saturday July 3rd and your book is still not on the LonePine book Rack ( or maybe they sold all the copies).

thought you might want to know. I still yet to find a copy for myself. Can we get this book anywhere else in town?

    ALD1

  13. haven’t seen it but to be honest, I haven’t tried latley, I’ll check later today at the CT across the way here at work

  14. Jeff,

not sure if you will see this post because the blog is way down.
